The risk assessment and action plan are dynamic and are regularly reviewed to ensure they meet current need. All appropriate documentation is shared with staff and any necessary training to support implementation of the plan is provided.
The Department for Education (DfE) has specified that all schools and colleges should have a contingency plan (sometimes called an outbreak management plan). This document should detail the steps to be taken in the event of a Covid-19 outbreak in the school/college.
The contingency plan should include the following sections and local arrangements/circumstances should be taken into account.
The contingency plan should detail the steps to be taken with a single confirmed case, where multiple cases are confirmed within a setting, and where there is substantial community transmission also.
In the case of an outbreak, enhanced prevention mitigations will be required such as, but not limited to, preventing unnecessary visitors attending the school/college, the reintroduction of other control measures like staggered start and finish times provision. Enhanced or on-site testing may also be considered where appropriate. Public health teams may also recommend enhanced self-isolation such as a class or year group where necessary and settings should have plans in place to support provision in these circumstances which have been the subject of consultation with staff as appropriate.
