Cherry Oak School
Working Together for Success
Our school kitchen is managed by CityServe and run by cook Pauline Andrews and kitchen assistants Linda Woodward, Kelly Bragger and Mark Bond.
A hot meal is provided at midday and pupils are encouraged to make their own choices from the menu and to develop independent skills and table manners as part of lunchtime routines.
The menus provided by CityServe are carefully selected to ensure a balanced and healthy meal is offered. A vegetarian menu is available. Fresh fruit and yoghurt can be chosen as adesert option. Fruit juice, milk or water are given for drinks.
Hot meals cost £2.30 per day or £11.50 per week. Payment should be sent to school in a sealed and named envelope at the start of the week. You may pay several weeks in advance if you wish.
From 1st September 2014, every pupil Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will be eligible for free school meals and from January, new food standards are being introduced -see: www.schoolfoodplan.com (external link).
The new scheme is called Universal Infant Free School Meals.
Parents of children not in receipt of free school meals currently, will receive a form asking them to confirm whether they want their child to have school meals under the new scheme.
Parents in receipt of certain benefits will be asked to complete a separate form so that their children can receive free school meals. This is across all year groups.
If you wish your child to bring a packed lunch please ensure it is healthy as children perform much better at school if they are making healthy choices at lunchtime.
Our team of lunchtime Supervisors are assigned to classes to support pupils along with their class teams. We ensure pupils are well supervised during this time.
Pupils are encouraged and supported with hand washing and personal care routines as part of lunchtime. Once they have eaten there is the opportunity to take part in outdoor physical activities. Football is very popular along with riding bikes, using swings or taking part in other organised activities. We have lots of outdoor space so there is plenty of room for different activities.
Our school dinner menu follows a two-week cycle. You can read the current menu below:
