A Christmas message to the families of Cherry Oak School

Dear Parents, Carers and Pupils,

It has been a very difficult year for most of us. Not only have we faced a global pandemic in which some of us may have suffered the loss of loved ones, but the lives of our very special children have been severely disrupted.

I am proud to say that Cherry Oak School has served its families well and a great deal of appreciation has to go out to Amy and every member of staff for the time and effort put into continuing to provide contact, resources and learning under the most challenging circumstances.

As you are all aware Amy is leaving us at the end of this week and we congratulate her on her promotion and wish her all the best for her new role. We also want to thank her for the many years of hard work and love that she has given to Cherry Oak children.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to Mr Ross Ashcroft, the new Head Teacher who will take up his post in January. Although we all know that we will miss Amy we are also excited about the new appointment and have great hopes for the continued development of Cherry Oak School under his leadership.

Mr Ashcroft comes to us with a very strong background in senior leadership of various types of Special Education and I have to say that he stood out clearly as the best candidate from a large and strong field of applicants. We had 10 applications, interviewed 6 of the best and really put them through a rigorous process to ensure that you and your children will continue to be well served by your school. As the person leading the recruitment process my main concern was always “would I be happy for my child to be in a school led by this person”. I’m sure as time goes on you will come to agree with me that we did our best to secure the best.

Under normal circumstances we would have held a parent meeting to allow you to meet and greet the new Head and for you to be able to ask questions and get to know his plans for the future. We are working with Mr Ashcroft to make some form of virtual session available so that everyone can have this opportunity albeit in a virtual form. He has already made a number of visits to the school so that the children are getting used to him and a smooth transfer will be made.

Finally, thank you for sharing your beautiful children with us at Cherry Oak and I wish you a heartfelt Merry Christmas from all of the Governors.

Season’s Greetings,

Clare Mills

Clare Mills    Chair of Governors.

Welcome to the Governors section of our school website.

As we are in Federation with Victoria School we have one joint Governing Body.

Our Federation brings innumerable benefits and it has been a huge success. We have staff who are employed over the Federation, we share resources and expertise.

Many of the Governors have a great deal of experience and offer us both challenge and support as necessary. All the Governors are extremely dedicated and give generously of their time to both schools in the Federation.

Our Governors are made up of representatives from key stakeholder groups - parents, staff, the Local Authority and the local community.

We generally have two full Governing Body meetings a term and we also have committees for Finance, Personnel and Buildings, Health and Safety.

You can contact the Governing Body via the school office in the first instance on 0121 476 9478 or emailing: enquiry@cherryoak.bham.sch.uk
