TIAAS Bronze Award

We are very pleased to announce that Cherry Oak School has been awarded a bronze award in recognition of the trauma informed and attachment aware work that has been happening in school. This has been awarded by the Birmingham Educational Psychology Service in partnership with Birmingham Virtual School.

A message from Heather Webb Jones, Educational Psychologist provides more information:

To all the staff at Cherry Oak,

We would like to offer huge congratulations on achieving Bronze Certification in recognition of the fantastic trauma informed and attachment aware work which has been happening at Cherry Oak!  It has been an absolute pleasure to work with you in beginning this journey and to see the creative and innovative ways in which school are already adapting, tailoring and implementing TIAAS strategies in practice to meet the needs of the complex and diverse children you support.

In particular the TIAAS Regulation Backpacks, the adapted Zones of Regulation resources and strategies which are personalised and I observe to be in constant use with pupils in a really effective way, your daily sensory circuits and the Cherry Oak Sensory Curriculum developed for pupils, personalised self-regulation trays containing pupils’ regulating tools and strategies in classrooms, and the many calm spaces developed throughout school.  At a more strategic level, the focus and commitment to creating calm and low arousal classrooms and transitions for those pupils that need this, embedding of TIAA practices across school policies and documentation from the school development plan, pupil regulation plans, the way in which behaviour is described, logged, and analysed to staff performance management documents and developing induction processes, is to be highly commended as examples of good practice for other schools.

I know that your next foci for your TIAAS Development Plan are on parental engagement and pupil voice, and I look forward to continuing to work with your TIAAS working group next term and would encourage you strongly to work towards achieving Silver level as you already have many of these elements in place (Certification Toolkit attached).

I look forward very much to continuing this journey next term, and to begin working towards Silver. I would also like to encourage you to continue to develop the video resources of pupils using your fantastic resources which has already been started and our TIAAS team are keen to support you with putting the videos together/editing etc. so that you can share them on your school website should you wish.

Warmest regards to you all, hope you have a lovely Summer holiday.

Heather and the TIAAS Team.
