School statement on the death of Queen Elizabeth II

School Statement

Like many schools around the country, we are saddened to learn that her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, has died following a life of tireless service and dedication. We offer our deepest condolences to the Royal Family and hope her influence and impact be long lasting.

We have now entered a period of national mourning that will continue until the end of the State Funeral. Schools and Further Education settings will remain open during this time. Once details of the funeral are confirmed by the Royal Household, we will write to you with further guidance and information.

Over the coming weeks, we will celebrate her life and give thanks for her service as Queen, including her important role as Head of State and Head of the Church of England.

Where appropriate, children will be given the opportunity to make personal reflections and write/listen to prayers in her honour. For many, the Queens death will reawaken the pain of other personal losses. We will remind pupils throughout this period that that there is always someone here to communicate with and we extend this offer to all our families.

At this time of national mourning, we can take comfort from words spoken by the Queen herself:

"We may hold different points of view but it is in times of stress and difficulty that we most need to remember that we have much more in common than there is dividing us.”

"It's worth remembering that it is often the small steps, not the giant leaps, that bring about the most lasting change."

Many thanks
