We are a communication based class, focusing on life skills and sensory enrichment opportunities, following an explorers pathway through our curriculum. Our curriculum is adapted to tailor for the individual needs of Bluebells pupils, where we work together and thrive on our successes.
This half term, Bluebells topic is 'Stories from Around the World'. Our focus story is Handa's Surprise, where we experienced an exotic fruit tasting session as an introduction to the story. The theme of Handa's Surprise will be embedded within various sessions throughout the weeks, which aims for children to learn about the aspects of the story such as the characters, the setting and the story narrative through different means and learning styles.
Towards the end of the half term, our focus will change to Christmas, where we will have lots of Christmas themed activities to lead us up to the festive season.
We've done lots of work on finding our preferred communication methods and learning about how to communicate our needs and wants in appropriate, effective ways. In Bluebells we use objects of reference, audio and visual cues and COPE on a daily basis within all of our daily routines. We have had some fantastic progress across the Autumn term, look at some of our work!
